grad studies or work?! scared... argh.
ok... been contemplating about my future. wat am i going to do after coming back from the states? con't grad studies or work?
i talked to Dr Gong, he has a couple of projects on environmental science. his lab is using human cell lines to serve as a bioassay to test potential harmful compounds in the environment. he already had interesting findings. now he has grant from govt n wanna use the bioassays for reservoir water, lake water, NEWater etc. it has it's commercial value and is very applicable. another project is using phytoplankton from singapore waters to measure n detect new compounds like endocrine disrupting compounds which affects the sterility of humans. in singapore, sterility is at high of 20%!! normally, for masters students, the graduate research scholarship is 1.5k per mth, 2k for PhD. he is going to top it up to 2k n 2.5k respectively and he mapped out the projects for MSc n PhD le.
the scholarship should nt be a prob cos his big boss (prof yong EL) is head of research n he approves the scholarship application. spoke to him while touring Dr Gong's lab, he asked me a couple of qns, n agreed to Dr Gong accepting me as student. Dr Gong thinks I am suitable cos guy (field work collect water) n singaporean (easier for admin purposes), plus i have some experience in marine bio (my labrador algae, i miss them). he is looking for a research fellow to work in this and we can help each other. he said tt i can be with him to interview the RF cos i need to find someone i can work with. erm... i felt weird tt a student is there to interview a PhD holder...but anyway nt confirmed yet.
so if i wanna go for it, there will be no prob. i am thinking, should i? this is like a never ending road. once i embark on it, it will be 4yrs. but the reward is a PhD n experience. there is still uncertainty even with PhD. i got until May to apply for it. meanwhile shall talk to more ppl n then decide.
